How to Wear High Heel Shoes Safely

As much as we love women’s shoes with high heels, the truth is that they pose several risks to the feet, from bunions to osteoarthritis in the knees. This, of course, doesn’t mean you should say goodbye to your favorite high heels forever, but maybe it’s time to find smarter ways to wear them in order to reduce their negative effects as much as possible!

  1. Save them for special occasions
A formal dinner where you won’t be walking much, for example, is a great opportunity to wear your favorite high heels. An 8-hour day at work on the other hand, especially if you have to walk to get there, is not the right time, no matter how stylish you think they look. Choose a pair of comfortable women’s sneakers and save the pumps for the evening!
  2. Wear them with a specific time schedule
The lowest heels, also known as kitten heels, as well as mid-height heels can be worn for up to three hours. Just the thing you need for a wedding dinner or a short evening event. Very high heels, i.e. from 9 cm and above, should only be worn for an hour.
  3. Take a seat
High heels and walking don’t get along so well… So, the time frames mentioned above can easily be extended if you are sitting down. If you know you’ll be commuting by car and have a seat secured where you’re going, you can take advantage of this to wear your high heels longer. And of course, if you want to dance, take them off for a while!
  4. Get your feet back to their original state
After you return home and take off your heels, stretch the soles of your feet forward and backward several times. In addition, use a small ball and roll it on the floor with your feet. These movements strengthen the leg muscles, help improve blood circulation and reduce numbness.
